The Roberts Institute of Art Residency is built on our core values of rigorous cross-disciplinary thinking, experimentation and conviviality.

Currently by invitation-only, we welcome international artists to our residency in Scotland to support their practice, offering time and space without the pressures of production.

A unique aspect of the RIA Residency is being responsive to the specific needs and aims of our residents on a case-by-case basis, which we develop through research and dialogue with each resident. We aim to provide creatively stimulating conditions for residents to explore ideas, materials and projects. During their stay, residents will be connected with practitioners from different disciplines, as well as with Scotland’s rich cultural field.

There is no requirement for residents to use their time to produce a ‘finished work’: our priority is to enable residents to think and create freely, try out different forms of expression. Together with partner organisations in Scotland, we explore how best to publicly present their time in residence, including through talks, podcasts and texts. You can see and hear more from the residents across our digital channels.
